List of the Week - Two-TAG-Haqq

What's that I hear you cry? "But Haqqislam can only take one TAG!" Not if you are playing Qapu Khalqi!

Some sectorials armies offer substantially different options compared with their vanilla peers and when deciding to take a sectorial you always have to consider what you are gaining by giving up a lot of versatility. With this list I intend to gain a great deal indeed.

Few sectorials differ more from their counterparts than Qapu Khalqi. You gain access to a variety of mercenaries (Druze, Yuan-Yuan, Scarface) and a host of Nomad troops (Alguaciles, Mobile Brigada, Iguana) in exchange for a rather limited selection of basic Haqqislamite troops. You also have access to the Haris rule allowing you to field a 3-man secondary link ands the ability to bulk out your links cheaply using Hafza.

This is going to be a 300 point Spec Ops list that is designed to be able to take all-comers in all scenarios, i.e. the kind of list I'd happily take to a tournament.

So, where do we want to start? With Scarface/Cordelia and an Iguana of course! For 142/3.5 we get two fairly competent TAGs and a decent Engineer to keep them running. That's not bad value at all.

We then want to continue with the idea of making the most out of playing a sectorial, so the next think we'll be taking is a link team.

Because we've spent almost half our points already on TAGs, and they'll be our main offensive element, we'll just stock up on some basic Ghulams. They provide orders cheaply, are moderately survivable in a full link and can have a decent Doctor specialist.

So that's our Lieutenant, two rifles to act as cover for him and a Doctor to complete objectives and patch everyone up. The final slot in the link is taken up by our Husam.

For our Spec Ops we're trying something a bit different - a Hafza with Viral Sniper Rifle, +2BS and the Specialist skill. The plan is be to have him start the game hidden as a regular Ghulam within the link and use him to alpha strike a dangerous target. He's effectively armed with a Burst 3, Dam 15 Viral weapon and will be shooting at BS17 which, frankly, is brutal.

We still only have three specialists though and as they are all squishy, with only a single wound and not much armour, we should definitely add at least a fourth. So our next inclusion is a Najjarun. We'll also assign a Nasmat to each of the Engineers because we really want to keep those TAGs running.

Nasmats also have the added benefit of allowing us to 'safely' diffuse mines and make multiple Discover rolls in a single order (one for the Engineer, one for the Servant). In a list with no Multi Spectral Visors and only one template weapon this can be very handy.

We've only got one slot left in our combat group now but still have a fair chunk of points left to spent (62 of 'em).

Haqqislam has a wealth of models around the 30 point mark and I don't think that we need anything very expensive like an Azra'il or Janissary so I think we can afford to have a Shihab in a second combat group. We've already got two Engineers to keep it running and it can just spend it's one order a turn dropping a mine to fortify our DZ if it has nothing to shoot at.

With our last remaining points I'd like to acquire one more specialist to bring our total up to a healthy five, and you know what fits perfectly? An Al'Hawwa hacker.

Whilst I don't think we'll be hacking defensively much (our TAGs have a BTS of 6 whilst our hacker has none) it protects us from GMLs and can be used to lock down passing TAGs and HI that are trying to rush us. Having an infiltrating specialist is also very useful in many ITS missions.

So, that's the army. 300 points of stompy mechanical death, high WIP specialists and an efficient link team. Let me know what you think. :)

  1. I like it, but having no Yuan Yuans in a QK list feels wrong.

    1. I know what you mean, Yuan Yuans just do so much work in QK normally, I like the ability to throw down smoke to cover the advance of the Link and the TAGs as well.

You could drop the Najjarun & Nasmat for one and use the remaining points to upgrade a rifle Ghulam to have a HMG possibly. That seems like a solid change. :)
